Just Engaged? Start Planning Your Quebec Wedding With These Tips
So… you said yes. 💍
First of all — huge congratulations! Whether the proposal was private and quiet or a full-on surprise with friends and family cheering, it’s one of those moments you’ll remember forever.
When I proposed to my wife Mandy, it was Christmas Eve. I made a short film that told our love story — revisiting all the little places that meant something to us, from where we met to where we first said "I love you." I even got her friends and family involved with surprise video messages.
That moment was unforgettable — and I know you're probably still floating in your own version of that magic. Mixed in with all the joy is usually a little voice asking: "Okay… now what?" That’s where this guide comes in — a few simple, helpful tips to get you started on your wedding planning journey, especially if you're getting married here in Quebec.
I’m Randy — a wedding photographer based in Bromont, and I work with couples all over Montreal, the Eastern Townships, the Laurentians, and throughout Quebec. I’ve had the honour of capturing hundreds of weddings, and if there’s one thing I know, it’s that the time right after getting engaged is magical — but also kind of overwhelming.
Here’s a little guide to help you ease into the planning process — local, practical, and straight from someone who’s seen it all.
Walking into forever, side by side 🤍
🌟 1. Soak It All In
No rush. Seriously. Enjoy this time. Go on a date. Tell the story a dozen times. Take a photo of the ring in every lighting situation possible.
You don’t need to plan everything today. Let the moment sink in — it only happens once.
🗣️ Talk About the Kind of Wedding You Want
Before reaching out to vendors, talk about what the two of you want.
Small and intimate, or a big celebration?
Nature or city?
Summer ceremony in the Eastern Townships, or fall wedding in Montreal?
This helps guide all the decisions to come.
🍁Choose a Season, Not a Date (Yet!)
Weddings in Quebec look completely different depending on the time of year. Picture golden autumn leaves in Montérégie, snowy chalets in the Laurentians, or summer fields in Bromont.
Start by picking a season or month you love — it gives you flexibility when booking vendors and venues.
📸 Book Your Key Vendors Early
Some vendors (like photographers… 👋) book up more than a year in advance. If there’s someone you really want to work with, reach out sooner than later — even if your venue isn’t locked in yet.
Fun fact: many couples book their engagement session before finalizing their wedding date.
Felt like a memory the moment it happened.
🏡 Go Local
There are so many amazing vendors in Montreal, the Eastern Townships, and beyond — planners, florists, makeup artists, DJs. And they know the venues, the weather, and the wedding scene here like no one else.
I've put together a Recommended Vendors List if you're looking for people I trust and love working with.
💑 Book an Engagement Session
Yes, it’s about the photos (and you’ll be glad you have them), but it’s also about getting comfortable.
Most of us aren’t models — and that’s the point. Engagement sessions let us hang out, have fun, and get you feeling confident in front of the camera before the big day.
We can shoot somewhere that means something to you — a Montreal cafe, a trail in the Townships, your favourite lookout — anything that feels like you.
❓Ask All the Questions
Worried about lighting in a dark church? Not sure how to build a timeline? Wondering if it’s OK to do a first look?
Ask away. I’ve seen just about everything and I’m always happy to give honest answers — even for things that have nothing to do with photography.
To be honest, photographers often end up being part planner, part therapist on the wedding day. We help pin boutonnières, fix veils, wrangle family members, calm nerves, and diffuse tension when things get a little chaotic (because let’s be real — it always gets a little chaotic).
I’m not just there to take beautiful photos. I’m there to support you, to read the room, and to help make sure you feel good in your skin — whether we’re chasing golden hour or waiting for Uncle Dave to finish his speech.
Love sounds a lot like laughter.
❤️ Final Thought: Make It Yours
There are no rules. This is your wedding. If that means a donut truck, matching sneakers, no speeches, or a ceremony that lasts five minutes — go for it. The most memorable weddings I’ve photographed weren’t the most elaborate or traditional; they were the ones that felt true to the couple.
Your story is one of a kind — your wedding should be too.
I work with couples all across Montreal, the Eastern Townships, the Laurentians, and beyond. I’d love to help bring your vision to life and capture every real, unfiltered moment along the way.
