3 Mistakes to Avoid When Hiring a Wedding Photographer

3 MISTAKES TO AVOID WHEN HIRING A WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER

MONTREAL WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY

Once couples get engaged, the process of planning the wedding kicks into high gear. It starts by finding the right dress, venue, and of course, the perfect wedding photographer. For most couples, this is the first time they ever hire a professional photographer. It can be an overwhelming and stressful experience as you get presented with different packages, prices, albums, contracts and portfolios. It’s intimidating!

To help you through the process, here are 3 mistakes you should avoid at all costs when hiring a photographer for your wedding day.

THE ALBUM CAN WAIT

PRIORITIZING PRODUCTS OVER PHOTOGRAPHY

If you have a limited budget, it may seem like a good idea to find a wedding photographer who includes everything you could ever hope for in their cheapest package. Some photographers offer unlimited hours of coverage, a free album, and even wall prints. However, we suggest couples invest money into a good photographer and not on a wedding album.

While we do believe in printing your photos, you are better off with beautiful images on a hard drive than bad images in a poorly constructed wedding album. Besides, you can always get your album made in the future.

Many of our clients come back to us a year or more after their wedding for their album. There is no rush!

HIRING YOUR UNCLE BOB

IT’S NOT ABOUT THE CAMERA

A great camera doesn’t make you a good photographer. Your uncle Bob might have a new DSLR with wonderful lenses, but just because he is offering his services as a wedding gift doesn’t mean you have to take it. Do you really want your wedding day left in the hands of an amateur? So many moments occur on that special day that cannot be recreated. Put your trust in a professional.

You need to look at your wedding photos like an investment in your future. 20 years from now you’ll be happy you paid a little more for an experienced wedding photographer.

When you look back at your wedding, after all the food is eaten and the flowers have wilted away, all you have left are your wedding photos. A great photographer is a sound investment in the preservation of your memories.

IT’S ALL ABOUT PERSONALITY

FIND A PHOTOGRAPHER YOU WOULD WANT TO BE FRIENDS WITH

Hiring a wedding photographer is not like hiring a plumber. We spend some of the most important hours of your life with you. From the engagement session all the way through to the end of your wedding day, a wedding photographer will be with you through some of the most intimate and important moments of your life. It’s important that you like them beyond the images they capture.

Couples should spend time reading reviews as well as sitting down with their photographer over coffee. Get to know them and see if the fit is right.
