WHEN IS THE BEST TIME FOR A MATERNITY PHOTOSHOOT

Maternity Photography is best done between your 7th and 8th month of pregnancy ( 30-35 weeks). If you’re carrying multiples, your belly will look a little more round closer to 6-7  months. Although this may feel a bit late to you, the goal is for you to have that perfect bump showing for your session!

However, don’t be afraid to schedule your maternity photos a little earlier if you feel it’s best for you. There are no rules set in stone. Do what feels right for you and your body.

If you want to commemorate your pregnancy at 25 weeks because you’re loving your body and feel like you’re growing faster than expected, go for it!

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING TO MY MATERNITY PHOTOGRAPHY SESSION

Keep it light and simple. You don’t want to stress yourself out having to carry several bags around with you. However, there are a few items we suggest you bring to your photoshoot in order to facilitate comfortable session.

Having some water and light snacks on hand is always a good idea just in case you’re feeling a bit tired. Also, be sure to bring a pair of comfortable shoes for walking around or to change into for more casual photos. It’s also very useful to have some touch-up makeup and hairspray with you.

Lastly, being based in Montreal means we have to deal with weather that is constantly changing. Be sure to bring a jacket or a sweater with you.

WHAT PROPS SHOULD I BRING TO MY SESSION

You want your photos to feel authentic to who you are. Just because an idea was cute on Pinterest, doesn’t mean you should feel pressured to try and replicate it. So no, props are not necessary.

However, for some couples, they can be a great way to personalize their pictures. For example, if you know the sex of your baby or the name you’re going to use, you can bring colored balloons to announce the sex or blocks to spell out the name.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR TO MY MATERNITY SESSION

You can either rent or purchase a dress that is designed speciiilaly for maternity photos, or you can wear something of your own. Again, it’s all about what feels right for you!

When selecting an outfit to wear for your shoot, consider clingy fabrics and figure-hugging silhouettes if you really want to emphasize your shape. We also suggest wearing a nude seamless strapless bra and nude underwear.

SHOULD I BRING MY PARTNER WITH ME

While you’re definitely going to want plenty of photos of just you and your belly, taking maternity photos with your partner is a wonderful way to strengthen your bond and celebrate the new life you’re bringing into this world.

Many studies show that expecting fathers can experience a delay in boding with their child. However, taking maternity photos can help new dads develop a stronger emotional connection with their growing baby. Helping your spouse bond with your infant will also help you both form a stronger connection.

WILL RETOUCHING BE INCLUDED IN MY MATERNITY PHOTO PACKAGE

We include retouching in the price of the package you purchase!  Please be sure to let us know if there are specific things you want to be retouched so that we can make note of that.
